Advanced Selection Tool

Advanced Selection Tool Documentation

Filter Revit elements by parameter rules, then select, isolate, or color-code them in one click.

Advanced Selection replaces manual, one-by-one filtering. Build a set of parameter rules once -- for example, all Doors with a specific Fire Rating, or all Walls wider than 200 mm -- then select, isolate, or color-code every matching element, across the whole model or just the current view.

Installation

1. Download the installer from your BIM Hive account's Downloads page. 2. Run it, agree to the terms, click Next, then Install. 3. Open Revit -- the plugin adds a BIM Hive tab to the ribbon. 4. The first time you launch it, enter your license key when prompted (find it anytime on your account's Licenses page).

How to Use

1. Open a project view, then go to the BIM Hive tab -> Selection Tools -> Advanced Selection. 2. Choose a Category (e.g., Doors). 3. Tick Current View Only to limit the scope, or untick it to search the whole model. 4. Add one or more Filter Rules: pick a Parameter, an Operator (Equals / Contains / Greater Than / Less Than), and a Value. Use the Logic column (AND/OR) to combine rules. 5. Choose an Action: Select, Isolate in View, or Override Color. 6. (Override Color only) Pick a projection line color, surface color, and/or surface fill pattern, then click Apply. 7. Click Run -- a summary shows how many elements matched.

Filter Rules & Actions

Parameter and Value drop-downs are populated automatically from the elements already in your model, so there's nothing to type from memory. Combine as many rules as you need with AND/OR logic. Override Color is non-destructive and easy to reverse -- it's meant for QA, coordination, and presentation, not a permanent change to the element. Length, area, and volume values are unit-aware automatically (mm, m², m³).
