Structural Plan Annotator Documentation

Auto-dimension and tag structural columns and RC footings in Revit plan views.

Structural Plan Annotator scans the active plan view for structural columns, isolated RC footings, and visible grids, then generates consistent dimensions and tags in one pass -- built for structural documentation workflows that need faster, cleaner annotation.

Installation

1. Download the installer from your BIM Hive account's Downloads page. 2. Run it, agree to the terms, click Next, then Install. 3. Open Revit -- the plugin adds a BIM Hive tab to the ribbon. 4. The first time you launch it, enter your license key when prompted (find it anytime on your account's Licenses page).

How to Use

1. Open a Revit plan view. 2. Make sure the active view contains structural columns or isolated RC footings and visible grids. 3. Run Structural Plan Annotator. 4. Choose Columns mode or RC Footings mode. 5. Select the required tag type from the project. 6. Set the tag offset and dimension offset in mm. 7. If needed, set the chain offset for footings. 8. Choose whether to use element centerlines. 9. Choose whether tags should be created. 10. Run the command and review the generated dimensions and tags.

Annotation Modes

Columns mode dimensions each column to the nearest horizontal and vertical grid, using top and left-side placement, and skips anything already sitting exactly on a grid intersection or axis. RC Footings mode creates footing-size dimensions and chain dimensions from grid or center references, and can place an internal foundation tag inside the footing at your chosen offset. The tool always checks for existing tags and dimensions first and skips duplicates, so re-running it on the same view is safe.
